Amazing visit to Billabong Zoo: Koala &Wildlife Park [Forster Public School]

“As we woke up to a beautiful sunny day, Year 2 at Forster Public School were so excited to be finally going to Billabong Zoo and Koala Wildlife Park. We met our zoo keeper guides Blake, Kristy and Stuart. They entertained us all day and taught us heaps of information about the animals at the zoo. We got to meet and pat, Ernie the Dingo and Harley the Koala. We were very excited to see the new enclosure and meet the leopards but we were there one week too early for the lions. Throughout the day we were able to feed bouncy kangaroos, cute wallabies and some of these even had little pink joeys in their pouches. At the end of the day, we saw the amazing Shrek Show and Shrek was very active in jumping up to eat his raw chicken. It was such a fun day had by all and we would definitely like to return to Billabong Zoo. We have enjoyed writing about our experiences at the zoo and have enjoyed creating paper woven crocodiles and paper plate turtles. 2/29 would like to find out some more information about being a zoo keeper so we have come up with some questions to email to our guides.”   link for full report and photos  http://www.forster-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/news/billabong-zoo

Cost

Students are $16 each | Registered Teachers – 1 teacher per 15 students is free | Additional teachers, helpers & parents are charged at the reduced adult entry fee of $16 each. We prefer to invoice on the day of the School Excursion. This is to ensure that the correct numbers are invoiced. Minimum group size for a Zoo Keeper Guided Tour is 25.  For groups larger than 60 we will provide  additional Keepers and split the group.

Itinerary

To ensure a successful School Excursion with our animals we recommend arrival time at Billabong Zoo between 9:30am – 10am and a departure time of between 1:30pm – 2:15pm. This allows maximum animal experience time with morning tea and lunch breaks.

Zoo Keepers will take students on a tour of the wildlife park, with opportunities for hand-feeding the Kangaroos and Wallabies, patting a Koala, meet and greet with a Dingo and an up-close Reptile presentation. For each species the Keepers will discuss habitat, diet, survival characteristics, conservation status as well as many other interesting facts  – the talks are geared to the age of the students.

Students will also get up-close to our Meerkats, Wombats, Penguins, a variety of Australian and exotic birds, Spider Monkeys, Red Pandas and our big cat exhibit area – cheetahs, snow leopards and lions.  The group will also assemble in our grandstand for  the  ever-popular feeding and presentation of our Monster Crocodile – Shrek & so much more, depending on time allocated.. We care for over 80 species with over 200 animals throughout the 10 acre wildlife park set in beautiful gardens with koi ponds. Remember, we can tailor our School Excursion tour for your requirements.

What to bring

A School Excursion to Billabong Zoo provides great memories and lots of photo opportunities. So make sure you don’t forget your camera or phone & video (remember to charge your batteries!). Plus enthusiasm. You might also want to bring plenty of water, sunscreen & wet weather gear. (We do have a wet weather contingency plan so you don’t need to cancel in wet weather – we will ensure your students get to see plenty of animals & have a great educational experience.) In the colder months make sure you have enough warm clothing. Personal belongings: we recommend students & teachers keep their belongings with them at all times.
